Where exactly is “the internet”?

We are now in Frankfurt saying hi to Thomas Martini and Marco Aslim from the Bright Brigade www.brighttradeshow  and we realized that as spoiled Finnish digital kids, we have been having problems getting to this thing called internet during the whole Road Trip.  One hotel employee told us to insert our email address and password (our own?) in the login fields to access the wifi connection? One reception lady told us to use the information we gave them when we checked in? Don’t know what information that was? And in Potsdam, they told us the wireless internet is free, but first you have to pay 17,80 € for the username and password. Now where is this internet? We would like to make some complaints about the system. What is the problem? How can we update all these walls, block flickrs, fuckers, twitters and ovi’s without this miracle machine?  Right now we are stealing someone else’s connection, and it keeps disconnecting all the time. Even this crime victim is having the same problem.  So from now on, if you want to know where we are going, how and what we are doing, look out from the window for some epic smoke signals.

The guys at Dickies are right, Inernet pretty much ruined everything… Even though they are probably not talking about how to access it.

Next stop : Munich. Let’s hope for some awesome, fast and furious internet there.

“The changing”

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

We have now been driving for over 3000 km. From Switzerland to the Atlantic cost of France, up north, avoiding Paris, past Normandy, under the Strait of Dover to a small island called England. Back to solid land, and now arrived to a beautiful town called Amersfoort, next to dizzy Amsterdam. We’ve met our personal heroes on the way, not only the ones we were supposed to meet, there popped up some surprises in UK. Had some beers and laughs together. And let us tell you, we’ve learned a great deal of life in general during this hectic week. So due to all the constructive feedback we have gained during our time on the road, we now look at friends, life and business from a totally new perspective. We thought, it’s time for us to turn the page.  Stay tuned for the page in question.

Thank you London, Steve and Sami for opening our eyes just a wee bit more. Enjoi. We will. Next stop : Berlin.

Trip gone bad?

After just few days and couple of thousand kilometers on the road our brave duo is starting to loose it. They are posting weird stuff to mlog, seeing peeing poodles on the highway and mostly taking photos of pine cones and small socks on the beach. It is a very promising start to the trip and at least our next catalogue will be interesting…

roadtripping

Get yourself in the mood of love! Love has never been smooth sailing and that is why so many love stories are told throughout Man’s history. Jump on the bandwagon and read about the best heart wrenching Makia love stories, sweet romantic stories and cute funny stories submitted by our website visitors.

Have you always wanted to find out more about your favourite romantic comedy or movie but is unable to do so? Simply check out our romantic movies in this database which even include old movies from the 1970s. Details include soundtrack listings, quotes from the movies and much more! Stay tuned. This trip is getting out of hands.

Expressing your love in fine poetry helps to melt even the coldest heart. Do it right and you gain instant points with the fair lady. However, doing it the wrong way often results in the opposite effect.

You are probably as confused as we are.

Hossegor over and out. See you in Paris.

Here is is the deal: 2 guys, 2 weeks driving around aimlessly in an desperate attempt to get people on their feet during these media loving global bad times. We are coming to your town, to shear some of our positive thinking. Or not. To be honest, we are just driving around, taking the wrong exit, making a u turn, cursing, blaming the GPS and shooting most of the catalog footage out of the window of a moving car. We blame the french for not speaking english, we blame the cheap 2 star hotel for not having 4 stars. We refuse to accept reality as it is. But we will try to visit as many places we can during the trip. Spreading the word of Makia, because there is just too many of you who don’t know what is coming up. Also at the same time shooting the Summer 2010 catalogue, so that Streetwear Today have (again) something to write about. We don’t know what is going to happen, where we’re going to end up, and when we eventually get to go back home. As it seems now, here in a small village called Vichy where we staid a night, we will continue this trip until the first fist / round-kick fight commences. Stay tuned for more daily updates and mobile pictures in the MTRIPPING player.

Who knows, maybe we will drop by your city/town/village/back yard or front door some day.

Silk & White Wine

Friday, April 17th, 2009

Makia is warming up for the upcoming European tour in Asia! Don’t know what this has to do with fashion (other than silk) but here is some wikipedia garbage right at you…

We went to visit Shanghai (People’s Republic Of China) just to learn a tiny bit more about the east side of our beloved globe, feeling bad about always going west (GO WEST, LIFE IS PEACEFUL THERE!). This is what we now know.  Baijiu (Chinese: 白酒; pinyin: báijiǔ) is a Chinese distilled alcoholic beverage.  The name baijiu literally means “white liquor,” “white alcohol” or “white spirits”. Baijiu is often mistakenly translated as “wine” or “white wine,” but it is actually a distilled liquor, generally about 40-60% alcohol by volume (that’s ethanol!!!). “Gambei” means “bottoms up”, and dude, let me tell you, there is no other way to drink it. Be careful, this crap will lead to lost shoes. Again!

Silk! Is there a cooler way to produce a material?  We went to check out a silk factory (don’t worry, there ain’t going to be any Makia silk shirts for next summer!) Anyway, lets see what Wikipedia have to say about this wicked process in question. Silk is a natural protein fiber bla bla bla, some forms of which can be woven into textiles bla bla bla. Ok here it is :  The best-known type of silk is obtained from cocoons made by the larvae of the freaky mulberry silkworm Bombyx.  The shimmering appearance for which silk is prized comes from the fibres’ triangular prism-like structure which allows silk cloth to refract incoming light at different angles. Silks are produced by several other insects, but only the silk of moth caterpillars has been used for textile manufacture. Check OVI for some cool pictures of the silk factory and the crazy worms that do what ever they do.
