He Is Legend.

Monday, August 31st, 2009

What’s up with our little home village Helsinki? Weird stuff going on here. We’ve traveled the world, met all kind of interesting individuals, but it takes a home coming to meet a true legend. Together with Christian Didrichsen (Bond, Weekend, SLVDR, Ex C1rca hero) we had the honor to enjoy a beer and a laugh accompanied with all time skate legend Steve Olson last night. Now how about that? Hope you didn’t miss your LA flight this morning.

If there is someone out there who doesn’t know Steve Olson, take your head out your ass and go : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b4tz0zCAgcg&feature=related

And in just a couple of days from now you will be able to purchase MAKIA from the Junkyard webstore. Stay tuned!

Bloody Canada

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

That was one hell of a tradeshow! MAKIA found many new homes in North America, and we are stoked about the positive feedback we got. Thank you KNOW?SHOW, and thank you WESC for the insane 3 INCHES OF BLOOD gig at Wise House. It was beautiful. And for sure it’s going to be one bloody show next year too. KNOW?SHOW is moving down to Calgary because of the Vancouver Winter Olympics, and from what we’ve heard, that place is bad news. But so are we.  Now, London calling!

‘My shop is gone. My friends are dead…the road was full of blood’.

KNOW?SHOW

Monday, August 24th, 2009

MAKIA will attend the KNOW?SHOW, Canada’s Premiere Lifestyle Tradeshow for the first time, starting today at Vancouver Convention Center. Doors open at 9 AM (Wow wow wow! Still at the airport, should probably start moving!) and the fun goes on until Wednesday 26.8.  It’s the 8th KNOW?SHOW so far, and there are lots of expectations which we are sure will be fulfilled. KNOW?SHOW is a great networking tool between retailers and hand picked brands inside the Fashion and Action Sports industries. Great buildings, open booth concepts, a clean layout, central lounge with bar, live installations using featured artists, on site entertainment and guest Djs are just a few of the ways KNOW?SHOW has avoided the standard “shoebox” tradeshow stigma. For more information about MAKIA / KNOW?SHOW, call Hans van der Griend   (514) 928-6622.  We will be happy to meet you in Vancouver.  Go Canada!

Everybodys gone surfin’

Sunday, August 23rd, 2009

We’re not a surf brand, but we sure would like to be one. Just got back to Melbourne from Torquay, Victoria, and let us tell you, that place is all surf industry on steroids. This tiny little village on The Great Ocean Road is the birthplace of surf industry giants Quiksilver and Rip Curl, plus some lesser known brands like Strapper Surfboards. On the Surf Coast Highway you will find flagship stores of every surf/skate/snow giant on this planet. The stores are so big, that it makes Hossegor in Napoleon land seem like a little brand kiosk. This is every surfer industry stall warts true mecca. They even give their ambitious youth a chance to study surf! Thank you everyone we met from Quiky, Strapper, Billabong and Rip Curl for the hospitality, and the constructive chats we had during the stay. We found some good homes for MAKIA in the land of OZ, so be sure to check out if your local dealer will have some of our goodies in stock next winter.

Also a big thank you Lincoln Eather, Empire Avenue for your patience in the water with us. The beaches of Bells, Torquay and Jan Juc are for all you surfers out there the place to visit; MAKIA highly recommends it! Last but not least, thank you mighty Geelong Cats for an exciting footy game, although it didn’t go the way we hoped. Next stop : Know Show / Vancouver.

Despite all this, Makia won’t be doing wetsuits for next summer. Sorry.
